CHP Leader Ozel Accuses President Erdoğan of Leading a ‘Coup Attempt’

In a strongly worded statement during a march to the Supreme Court, Özgür Özel, the leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), accused President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of orchestrating a coup against Turkey’s judicial system and the will of its people. The march, organized by the Union of Turkish Bar Associations, highlighted growing tensions over judicial independence in Turkey.

Özel criticized Erdoğan for undermining the Constitution and overstepping his authority. “Until President Erdoğan’s recent declarations, we were witnessing a judicial crisis. Now, it’s clear that this crisis has escalated into a blatant attempt to subvert the will of the Turkish people,” he said. Özel asserted that Erdoğan lacks the constitutional authority to alter the laws and accused him of acting like a coupist. “The people did not grant him the power to change the Constitution. His actions amount to a coup attempt,” Özel added.

This statement comes amid heightened scrutiny of Erdoğan’s policies and actions, reflecting a deepening divide in Turkish politics.
