İmamoğlu Sends a Clear Signal of Discontent: “I No Longer Feel at Home Here!”

It is stated that İmamoğlu, while expressing his grievance to Kılıçdaroğlu during the CHP Municipal Mayors Meeting, said, “Considering the current situation of the party and the existing conjuncture, I don’t feel like I belong here.” It was also claimed that Kılıçdaroğlu made some demands to step down from his position.

The municipal mayors of the CHP (Republican People’s Party) gathered today with the party’s administration. CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu met for the first time after the leaked zoom meeting held at CHP Headquarters.

SOME PARTY MEMBERS DESIRED TO PRESERVE THE RELATIONS WITH THE ALLIANCE PARTIES

According to Hüseyin Şimşek’s report in BirGün, during the meeting where the CHP’s local election strategy was discussed, the issue of the party congress process was brought up. It was reported that some of the mayors called for “change,” while others emphasized the importance of preserving the party’s integrity and maintaining good relations with the alliance parties.

It was learned that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu criticized the current CHP leadership and warned that significant municipalities could be lost if the change in leadership was not achieved. İmamoğlu also called on CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to ensure that the change process takes place smoothly and collaboratively. He also mentioned during the zoom meeting that such gatherings are not unethical.

According to the information obtained from the meeting, İmamoğlu said the following:

İMAMOĞLU: “I DON’T FEEL LIKE I BELONG HERE”

“After the election results, I have no apologies to make to you (Kılıçdaroğlu). I asked for a meeting one day after the elections, but you didn’t give me an appointment. I listen to the public, but you don’t. Change must be ensured. Otherwise, the losses will be significant. Considering the current situation of the party and the existing conjuncture, I don’t feel like I belong here, I don’t feel like I belong here.”

While delivering his speech on the topic of change, İmamoğlu was asked to conclude his remarks due to time constraints, to which he responded, “We are here to discuss these matters.”

“I WILL STEP DOWN FROM MY POSITION”

During the meeting, CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu reportedly made the following request to step down from his position:

“Bring someone who knows the party’s history, someone with a clean past, and I will immediately step down from my position.”
