Ocalan’s ‘House Arrest’ and ‘Marriage’ Request: Allegedly Conveyed to Government Officials

PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan has reportedly expressed his desire to be placed under house arrest and to get married, conveying this request to government officials.

Details of the meeting between DEM Party representatives and the PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, who was visited on İmralı Island last week, have started to emerge. TGRT Ankara Bureau Chief Fatih Atik claimed that during the meeting, Öcalan requested to be placed under house arrest and expressed his wish to marry.

In the process that began on October 22 following a call by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, DEM Party representatives Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Pervin Buldan visited İmralı Island last week to meet with Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the separatist terrorist organization. After the meeting, the DEM Party delegation also met with Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, and this week, they have begun visiting other political parties.

Information about the meeting continues to emerge from media outlets close to the government. TGRT’s Fatih Atik shared a remarkable claim, stating that one of Öcalan’s demands was to start a new life: “Among his demands is the desire to begin a new life. Öcalan wants to be placed under house arrest and get married. He reportedly shared his wish to start anew with state officials.”

‘GAZZA ANALOGY TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT’

Meanwhile, the new phase following the DEM Party delegation’s visit to İmralı continues. The delegation, consisting of Ahmet Türk, Pervin Buldan, and Sırrı Süreyya Önder, met with Ahmet Davutoğlu at the Future Party headquarters around 11:00 AM. The meeting lasted approximately 70 minutes, after which brief statements were made.

Speaking to reporters, Sırrı Süreyya Önder said: “As part of our ongoing talks, we met with Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, with whom we had the opportunity to collaborate in the past. We shared some of the experiences from earlier phases and conveyed the information we have. We sought his advice, suggestions, criticisms, and warnings. We will make a comprehensive statement after visiting Mr. Selahattin as well.”

Önder also addressed the remarks made by DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları during a public meeting organized by the Democratic Regions Party in Diyarbakır, where she stated: “In this historical turning point, we will either make a positive breakthrough and build peace, or negative fractures will occur, and everywhere will turn into Gaza.” He argued that her words were taken out of context. Önder said, “Our co-chair’s statement was taken out of context. Our approach is not to describe the situation as a disaster. The peace process is not easy, but peace is a beautiful thing.”

The DEM Party delegation is also expected to meet with the AKP and SAADET Party. Additionally, on Tuesday, January 7, the DEM Party delegation will meet with DEVA Party leader Ali Babacan at 1:00 PM and Fatih Erbakan of the Yeniden Refah Party at 3:30 PM. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel will meet with the İmralı delegation tomorrow at 10:30 AM in the Parliament.
