AKP (Justice and Development Party) Mayor Mehmet Emin Geylani’s security guards assaulted journalist Sinan Aygül, who has been hospitalized for treatment. Aygül stated that the guards who attacked him threatened him by saying, “If you write about the mayor again, you’ll die.”
Journalist Sinan Aygül shared on his social media account that he was assaulted by armed guards of Tatvan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Emin Geylani.
In his post, Aygül used the following expressions: “I was attacked a while ago in Tatvan by armed guards of Mayor Mehmet Emin Geylani. After getting out of the municipal vehicle and approaching me, the individuals hit me on the head and then insulted me, threatening, ‘If you write about the mayor again, you’ll die.’ I’m being taken to Tatvan State Hospital.”
HE HAD WRITTEN ABOUT ALLEGATIONS OF IRREGULARITIES IN THE MUNICIPALITY
Two days ago, journalist Sinan Aygül brought up allegations of irregularities regarding Tatvan Municipality on his social media account and wrote the following:
“The sale of immovable properties by municipalities is on the council’s agenda. There are serious irregularities and crimes in some of these sales. Many people would suffer if there were to be an investigation/legal process and an impartial judiciary. The auction of Bitlis Municipality was canceled because there were no participants. I expect the sale of Tatvan Municipality to be canceled as well due to the lack of competitive conditions. Cancel that sale @TatvanBld Municipality, it’s not your father’s farm. Do we need to open a file of ‘corruption in bidding’?”
UNDERGOING TREATMENT
Journalist Aygül was admitted to Tatvan State Hospital for treatment after the assault.
STATEMENT FROM THE MAYOR
Tatvan Mayor Mehmet Emin Geylani made a statement about the attack, stating that they did not approve of the incident and an administrative investigation has been initiated regarding the guards.
Mehmet Emin Geylani expressed the following on his Twitter account regarding the incident:
“I have no involvement in the unfortunate incident that occurred today. The incident stemmed from an argument between individuals, which we do not approve of. I extend my wishes for a speedy recovery to Sinan Aygül. We have initiated an administrative investigation regarding the municipal employee mentioned in the incident.”
