Trump’s Path to the Presidency: The Rise of an Unofficial King?

You might not be aware of it due to the excitement of the European football championship, the summer lethargy, or the refugee issue that’s straining Turkey, but historic things are happening in America. So historic that if Republican candidate Donald Trump wins the presidential election this coming November, he will become the ‘unofficial king.’

This is because the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that Trump cannot be prosecuted for official actions within his constitutional powers while he was president.

As you may recall, a lower court had previously ruled that Trump did not have immunity concerning charges related to his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, which he lost. Trump appealed the lower court’s decision and took the case to the Supreme Court. The court, which has shifted to a conservative majority with judges appointed during Trump’s presidency, overturned the lower court’s decision.

While three liberal justices dissented, six conservative members voted in a way that could be interpreted in Trump’s favor. This decision is a significant victory for Trump. Indeed, in his statement following the decision, he called it “a great win for the Constitution and democracy.”

Democrats are angry.

In a speech at the White House, President Biden described the decision as ‘upending the fundamental principle of equality before the law and setting a dangerous precedent that could turn presidents into kings.’ Biden’s visibly angry speech highlights the approaching danger.

In summary, Biden says; “This nation was founded on the principle that there are no kings in America. Each of us is equal before the law. No one, no one is above the law, not even the President of the United States. With today’s Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity, this has practically changed entirely. Today’s decision almost certainly means there are no limits to what a president can do. It sets a dangerous precedent because the power of the office will no longer be constrained by laws. Even the Supreme Court of the United States will not be a limitation; the only limitation will be the president’s self-imposed boundaries.”

So in short, he’s saying; if Trump wins the election, he will act like a king, doing whatever he wants. The recent Supreme Court decision will have emboldened Trump in this regard. Biden also made a further call to action, urging the public to take responsibility. Essentially, he said, “Stop Trump, do at the ballot box what the court should have done but didn’t.”

THE SUPREME COURT DECISION IS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEM Morale is high in the Trump camp. More than high, actually. Because last Thursday evening, Trump won the televised debate by a wide margin. This victory wasn’t due to Trump’s prowess but rather Biden’s inadequacy.

Indeed, Biden gave a very poor performance. Not only did he validate all concerns about his age and health, but he also exacerbated them. Biden could not form coherent sentences and failed to respond to Trump’s lies. His performance was so bad that it caused panic among circles already worried about the president’s age and health.

Even media outlets supporting the Democratic Party have openly started urging Biden to withdraw. The New York Times, for instance, published an editorial stating that Biden should withdraw from the race.

Many prominent figures in the Democratic Party believe that entering the race with Biden will undoubtedly result in a loss. However, Biden insists that he is in good health and that only he can defeat Trump. He has even called on famous supporters, including former President Obama, to rally behind him.

The Democratic Party is in quite a mess. Because as things stand, it seems almost certain that Trump will defeat Biden. However, the U.S. election system is very different. Biden has received the votes of the Democratic Party delegates, and the primaries are already over.

Changing the candidate before the major convention to be held in Chicago at the beginning of August is not impossible, but it is not easy either. There is no strong candidate, and there is little time to introduce a new name and promote them.

While there is a slight chance that President Biden might withdraw, there is also the crisis of who would run in his place. The coming month will be very heated. In summary, America is experiencing historic days. With yesterday’s Supreme Court decision, a path to a sort of kingship has been opened for American presidents. They will now be completely unaccountable for their actions.

Just imagine for a moment; President Trump, doing whatever he wants. No one to stop or limit him. Isn’t it quite terrifying?

However, you might say, “Let the Americans worry about that. We’re already living under the rule of an unlimited and unaccountable king in Turkey!”

And indeed, you would be right…
