Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel is set to visit Dilruba Kayserilioğlu, who was detained in Izmir following a street interview, at Aliağa Prison tomorrow.
Özgür Özel will meet with Kayserilioğlu, who was previously visited by Women’s Branch Chairperson Asu Kaya, Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek, and party lawyers. After the visit, Özel is expected to hold a press conference. Dilruba Kayserilioğlu was detained on August 12.
What Happened? In an interview with Tüylü Mikrofon in Izmir, Dilruba K. responded to a question about the Instagram ban by saying, “If we abandon the parliamentary system in the middle of the 21st century and hand over the entire Republic of Turkey to a single man, he will treat it like his father’s farm or barn. His Instagram is openly broadcasting Friday messages. And some even support this, saying, ‘Of course, he will use it; of course, he will open it.’ What I said may be misunderstood and interpreted in different ways. I don’t care at all,” she said, also criticizing the declaration of national mourning for Hamas leader Ismail Haniye.
Dilruba K. also criticized those who support the government, citing both the Instagram ban and regulations regarding street animals. She was detained because of these statements. Dilruba K. has been charged with two separate offenses: “Insulting the President” and “Openly inciting the public to hatred and hostility.”
