German federal prosecutors have indicted a Turkish citizen accused of sharing personal information about Hizmet Movement members with Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT).
The indictment, filed against Mehmet K., alleges espionage activities and claims he gathered and transferred names, addresses, and other details of individuals associated with the movement in Germany.
According to a statement from the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, charges were filed on November 14, 2024, with the State Security Senate of the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court.
Prosecutors say Mehmet K. made multiple contacts with MIT between September 2018 and August 2021, using anonymous letters sent through Turkish police. The information provided reportedly involved individuals in the Düren area of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Authorities believe Mehmet K. fled after his identity was uncovered.
