Turkish columnist and media figure Rasim Ozan Kütahyalı has been taken into custody following controversial claims suggesting that a trustee (kayyum) might be appointed to the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP).
According to a statement by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, an investigation was launched into Kütahyalı for “publicly spreading misleading information” after his remarks sparked widespread backlash. The statement read:
“In accordance with a judicial request from the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, Rasim Ozan Kütahyalı has just been detained as part of the ongoing investigation into the public dissemination of fabricated information.”
This development is particularly striking, considering Kütahyalı’s long-standing alignment with the Erdoğan government. For years, he has been seen as a staunch supporter of the ruling AKP, often voicing harsh criticism against the opposition while echoing pro-government narratives. That someone so closely linked with the government is now facing legal action raises questions about internal dynamics, possible fractures within the pro-government media circles, or a calculated move to draw lines between state-sanctioned rhetoric and destabilizing speculation.
