The College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP), a U.S.-based professional organization, has issued an official statement in support of the Hizmet Movement following the recent passing of its founder, Fethullah Gülen, known as Hocaefendi.
CPSP, which includes chaplains and Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) instructors who offer spiritual care and guidance in institutions such as prisons, the military, and universities across the U.S., highlighted the Hizmet Movement’s commitment to promoting intercultural and interfaith dialogue. “The Hizmet Movement underscores that the essence of service is to uplift human dignity and empower communities,” the statement reads. “We encourage all CPSP members to actively support those involved in the Hizmet Movement who are dedicated to serving their communities. We welcome their contributions, seek to integrate their spirit of service into our country, and offer them our cooperation, support, and friendship.”
Statement of Solidarity
“As a community deeply committed to interfaith solidarity, CPSP stands with religious minorities worldwide who are under threat, especially Turkish Muslims facing persecution from their own government. Many of those exiled in the U.S. have found a supportive home within CPSP, studying and practicing pastoral psychotherapy. Numerous individuals certified by CPSP as clinically trained chaplains have demonstrated their commitment and resilience.
“We are honored to recognize and support the Hizmet Movement, known for its philosophy of sacrifice, interfaith collaboration, and commitment to education. The Movement’s dedication to peacebuilding, social justice, and expanding educational opportunities resonates with our own commitment to serving those in need. Hizmet promotes understanding across cultures and faiths, emphasizing that service’s core purpose is to uplift human dignity and strengthen communities.
“We urge CPSP members to join in supporting those within the Hizmet Movement who are devoted to community service. We value their contributions and are working to integrate their spirit of service into our nation. Despite facing significant challenges in Turkey, their resilience and dedication remain inspiring. Through our partnership, we hope to provide meaningful support, reflecting our shared values of empathy, respect, and public service. This cooperation aims to amplify the positive impact Hizmet has on communities worldwide.”
The CPSP concluded by emphasizing the power of compassion and action, stating that the partnership between CPSP and the Hizmet Movement “demonstrates what can be achieved when compassion and action come together. We invite our members to embrace this partnership and contribute with kindness and support.”
