In a recent statement marking, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli, Erdogan’s ally in the Government, addressed the ongoing situation in Gaza, emphasizing the importance of Palestinian sovereignty and cautioning against forced displacement.
Bahçeli stated, “Remaining silent in the face of efforts to expel our Palestinian brothers from Gaza equates to accepting global imperialism and willingly submitting to captivity.” He further asserted that uprooting individuals from their homeland is a grave offense with severe consequences.
He reiterated his earlier proposal from August 5, 2024, known as the “Jerusalem Pact,” advocating for its consideration to establish regional peace and security.
Bahçeli declared, “Gaza belongs to the Gazans. Its land is not real estate to be developed; it has been sanctified by the blood of martyrs.” He emphasized that any solution other than a two-state approach leads to instability.
He also criticized external pressures on regional leaders, stating, “Islamic countries must return to their roots. No one, no country, should miscalculate by looking at the helpless and submissive stance of the King of Jordan and assuming that this surrender has become dominant..”
However, King Abdullah II of Jordan diplomatically declined President Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to neighboring countries, reaffirming his commitment to Jordan’s interests and regional stability.
He said he would do what is best for his country, adding that Arab nations would come to Washington with a counterproposal.
“Mr President, I think we have to keep in mind that there is a plan from Egypt and the Arab countries. [We are] being invited by [Crown Prince] Mohammed bin Salman [of Saudi Arabia] for discussions in Ryidah,” he said. “The point is how to make this work in a way that is good for everybody.”
He said that Jordan was planning to take 2,000 sick Palestinian children, which Trump described as a “beautiful gesture”.
Despite its vocal support for Palestine, Turkey has continued its trade with Israel throughout the war, exposing a stark contradiction between its rhetoric and economic policies.
