Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the military operation in Russia’s Kursk region is aimed at establishing a buffer zone. This marks the first time Zelensky has clearly outlined the objective of the operation, which began on August 6.
Zelensky made these remarks on the same day Ukrainian forces blew up a second bridge in Kursk. He explained that the operation inside Russia is intended to create a buffer zone to prevent future attacks from Moscow.
Zelensky also emphasized that the goal is to destroy as much of Russia’s military potential as possible during the operation.
“We need faster equipment deliveries from our partners. We are urging them to take action. There are no vacations in war. Decisions must be made, and the announced aid packages must be quickly delivered. I am specifically addressing the United States, the United Kingdom, and France,” Zelensky said.
After more than a week of fighting, Russian forces are still attempting to push back Ukrainian troops.

In the Ukrainian army’s attack on Kursk, Kyiv’s forces captured several villages, took hundreds of prisoners, and forced tens of thousands of civilians to evacuate. Kyiv launched the largest assault on Russian territory since World War II, catching the Kremlin completely off guard.
Russia has evacuated 120,000 civilians from Kursk and surrounding areas.
